New Hampshire's White Mountains in the fall can be a spectacular journey. In 2013, I spent a week watching the leaves change and fall in a persistent and cool breeze. The crispness of the air was as inspiring to me as the colors I have attempted express.
Inspired by the events leading to the 2013 Boston Marathon, well before the tragic bombing. I stood with my sketchbook within the crowds, anticipating the arrival of the first runners and wheelchair racers. None of us had any idea that seemingly minor choices would lead ultimately toward the gate between actual life and death. There was no reason for concern, but events were leading toward a tragic incident that would exemplify the nature of courage. Heroes walk with us every day. This is a painting about the Origin of Courage on that day.
